St Albans Personal Training  In my mid-thirties, I put on almost 2 stone and tried for 5 years to lose this weight by myself following the same diet and exercise regimes that had worked for me in my late twenties. Whatever the reason, the things that worked in my past were not working for me anymore. After years of dieting, practically starving myself and working out 5 to 6 days a week with no energy, I felt awful and saw almost no results. It was pretty miserable! No matter what I did, I couldn’t lose the weight I’d gained. At 40, I’d had enough, I’d recently gotten engaged and didn’t want to look back on wedding photos of myself where I wasn’t 100% happy with how I looked, but it wasn’t just about my physical appearance, my smart watch started to tell me that my resting heart rate was getting higher, and that was the alarm bell that I needed to get help. I decided that it was time to try something completely new and put my trust in a professional. So, after doing a bit of Googling, I decided to contact StAPT for a consultation.

This is when I met Dan. I told Dan about my weight difficulties and goals, and he listened to what I had to say without any judgement. It almost made me feel quite emotional saying out loud to a stranger that I didn’t like the way I looked (I hadn’t admitted this to anyone else) and explaining the frustration of trying to lose weight for years and failing, but Dan completely understood, made me feel at ease, and explained how he could help. I signed up for the 12-week programme because I wanted to commit to seeing the transformation that my health needed and I’m really glad that I chose this option. I almost opted for 6 weeks, after trying to lose weight for so long on my own a bit of me expected this not to work and I didn’t want to be disappointed, but I decided to take the plunge and go all in. Looking back, I would have seen good results in 6 weeks, but within 12 weeks everything changed dramatically and I’m so glad I chose this option. After finishing the 12-week plan I decided to stay on for another 4 weeks to keep going because it was working so well, and I enjoyed investing the time in myself.

While Dan says that I did it all myself, I know I couldn’t have achieved this without him. After all, I did it by myself for 5 years and got nowhere, so I have proof! While it’s nice that Dan gives me all the credit, (and maybe a bit of it was down to me I guess, I’ll take some credit!), I can’t thank him enough for helping me reach my goals by giving me the tools, training, and push I needed. I saw Dan 3 days a week for 16 weeks, after which Dan probably knew far too much about me, but I never felt stupid for asking him silly questions, he never charged me extra for the free CBT he provided, and it was always fun to spend time with him. I never once dreaded turning up to a session, and believe me, I’m not a gym bunny at all, I’d much rather eat cake, but I prioritised my time and made sure I always turned up and put the effort in, and I actually enjoyed it. If you’re thinking of signing up; 100% do it, it’s worth the money and time, you won’t regret it, but you have got to show up for yourself by doing the work and following the nutritional guidance. St Albans Personal Training   I have been training with Dan for just over two years now. I had a couple of objectives when I started, one was to lose weight and the other was to build strength to help improve my half-marathon running. I have been very impressed with Dan’s knowledge and the thought that goes into each session.
I particularly enjoy the variety of exercises using weights, body weight and isometric exercises in equal measure to break things up. Sessions are structured and work through different muscle groups (not forgetting legs!!) and we keep a diary of exercises completed to monitor progress. Dan has also got to know my various aches and pains over the years so we approach certain areas with more care and focus much more on stretching those areas out before working on them. I have a very busy work schedule so I have found Dan to be flexible with timing and pro-active in ensuring I can get sessions completed. In terms of completing my objectives, I have definitely built strength and my body shape has changed (more toned) – I’m still working on the weight loss but that’s more about my diet and more cardio outside training sessions! What I particularly like is the warm up exercises which is especially good as we do an ice-breaker activity that introduces each of us to the members of the group for that particular week. St Albans Personal Training  I started going to the free Saturday morning bootcamp in Highfield Park in July 2014 having heard about it through a Facebook group. Initially I presumed that the Bootcamp would involve lots of selling and promotions etc, there must be some catch right?! But there really isn’t, although it’s good to know that Dan is a great personal trainer and he would definitely be my ‘go to’ person when I decide to properly throw myself into fitness. Honestly before joining Bootcamp I really was an inherently lazy person with vague dreams of regaining the fitness of my youth but not doing anything about it. Saturday mornings were for relaxing. So I even surprised myself when I started going to Bootcamp. What kept me going week after week is that not only is it good fun, you meet some great people who are in a similar position to you, it’s also a fantastic training experience. The session starts with a warm up, something I would never do if left to my own devices, followed by a warm up game which usually gets very competitive but is lots of fun. Then the real ‘fun’ begins with a circuit course of various exercises, most were completely new to me and make use of either your own body weight, bars already in the park or sometimes weights or punchbags brought by Dan. You progress around the circuits, often with a partner to keep you motivated. The great thing about the circuits is that they are really different exercises, not the same boring ones you see everyone doing in the gym. Some change each week to keep it fresh, some stay the same so that you can really improve on your technique and notice an improvement. After the circuits comes the fat burning. Usually some kind of high intensity activity where you are encouraged to push yourself for “just 5 minutes of your entire day” (taken straight from the mouth of Dan). Then a relaxing and well deserved cool down. Dan is motivating and encouraging throughout the session and keeps you going even when you are gritting your teeth and willing for it to be over. I would totally recommend Dan as a personal trainer and the free bootcamp is fab. Everyone should come along!  St Albans Personal Training
